Knowing the vapor pressure is important in designing equipment that will or might contain boiling or highly volatile liquids. When the pressure in a vessel is at or below the liquid's vapor pressure, the liquid will boil. If you are designing a boiler, then designing it to operate at the liquid's vapor pressure is a pretty good idea. But if you are designing a waste solvent storage facility, you want the pressure to be significantly higher than the liquid's vapor pressure. In either case, you need to be able to calculate the liquid's vapor pressure.
