our earth is consist of many types of fundamental layers. if we estimate it layers by layers then we will find that there is a internal core which have the molten magma and lava. after that it have mantle layers which is of solid compositions and structure and then the last fundamental layers is crust on which we all are living. this crust is the surface of the planet earth and in this surface many other layers are foind in the form of mounatins cracks craters faults etc.
now if we take the case of age or the period of formations of these layers as mentioned above in the image then which will be the oldest and which will be the youngest. in this ww have a concept to understand as well as determine this. as the layer which are oldest will be found at the bottom levels and the youngest layers will be at the top most position. but to know actual time period of these layers we can use the carbon dating method. in carbon dating method we will collect the sample of the different layers and experiment on them to find the amount of the radiactive C-14 carbon isotops in them. the layer whiich have the least c-14 amount will be consider as oldest and the layer have the high c-14 amount will be youngest.
now here above by taking the same concept we have determine the ages of these layers and we have assembled them in order of oldest to youngest.
