Question
I am neeing help answering some questions for my final review. Please give detailed steps so that I can understand how to solve the problem. NOTE: On this question the green part is what I am being asked but I didn't know if I had to solve the original parts to get to the answer for the green part. If not all I need help with is the question in green. Thanks.
The burning time of an experimental rocket is a random variable having the normal distribution with = 4.76 seconds and = 0.04 seconds. What is the probability that this kind of rocket will burn:
a) less than 4.66 seconds
b) more than 4.80 seconds
c) anywhere from 4.70 to 4.82 seconds?
** Using the random variable what is the probability that 4 such rockets will have a mean burning time greater than 4.75 seconds?
Explanation / Answer
The expected value for the mean of 4 such rockets is 4.76 and the SD is 0.04/sqrt(4) = 0.02 [from the Central Limit Theorem]. so: z = (4.75-4.76)/0.02 = -0.5, look that up in a table and get 0.3085 for the answer.
