1. a) It is important to distinguish till from other types of diamictons. This is because tills are unsorted sediments composed of a mixture of clay and boulders and deposited by glacial processes whereas diamictons are terrigenous sediments composed of clay to boulder sized sediments, ususally suspended in a matrix composed of mud or sand and they are usually formed from dry land erosion; they are terrigenous sediments.
b) It is important to determine which processes form tills so that we can know about the palaeoclimate and palaeoenvironment of a particular place or region and thus, reconstruct many geological phenomena as we know that the present is the key to the past.
