Question

My professor gavme the answers, but Ithink there may be some mistakes, Please Check 1)  Addition rule for Joint Events which also iscalled General Addition Rule: P(E or F) = P(E) + P(F) – P(E and F)
E= 2,3,4,5,6,8,11,7,9,10 F= 6,8,11,12,13,14 P(E or F) = P(E) + P(F) - P(E and F) So, 13/16 is the answer is thatright, Please check _______________________________________________________ 2)      Addition rule for DisjointEvents:

      P(E or F) = P(E) + P(F)

A member gave me this:
ResponseDetails: The full eqn is
P(E or F) = P(E) + P(F) - P(E and F)

However, the above situation do not intepret each other
So, P(E and F) = 0
P(E or F) = P(E) + P(F) - 0
P(E or F) = P(E) + P(F)
ResponseDetails: My proffesor gave me this: Who is RIGHT? , Thank You
ResponseDetails: The full eqn is
P(E or F) = P(E) + P(F) - P(E and F)

However, the above situation do not intepret each other
So, P(E and F) = 0
P(E or F) = P(E) + P(F) - 0
P(E or F) = P(E) + P(F)

Explanation / Answer

For problem 1) If they do intersect, then you need to subtract the chance of theintersection. Therefore for prob 1) 13/16 is right. For problem 2) Professor is right, you just add, since they do not intersect. THanks! please rate
