Question
I am workin on approximating Binomial distribution. I have thefollowing information np=500(1/6)=83.3 and n(1-p)=500(5/6)=416.7.Since both answers are >5 the random variable x will be normallydistributed with a mean of np=83.3 and a standard deviation of sqrtnp(1-p)= 8.3. This is where I am stuck. When i figure sqrt 83.3(1-416.7) Ido not get 8.3. Please help me by explaining why I can't get theanswer. Thanks,Denise I am workin on approximating Binomial distribution. n = 500 p = 1/6 q = 1 - p = 1 - 1/6 = 5/6 Standard deviation of the binomial distribution: = np(1-p)= 500 * 1/6 * 5/6 = 8.3
