Question

Hello I was wondering if you could help me, this is driving me madbut I have Cumulative Distribution Frequency and one of thequestions asks: Use a Chi-Square-test to check for the goodness of fit to thedistribution of Y. the test statistic is 17.4 and the critical value was 16.92dof.9 5% level of significance The book states that since the test statistic value is morethan critical value we will say that the data fits thedistribution. But i thought if the calculated value of the chi-squaredstatistic is higher than the critical value for the chosenprobability level, then we cannot assume that thetheory adequately describes the results of the experiment Hello I was wondering if you could help me, this is driving me madbut I have Cumulative Distribution Frequency and one of thequestions asks: Use a Chi-Square-test to check for the goodness of fit to thedistribution of Y. the test statistic is 17.4 and the critical value was 16.92dof.9 5% level of significance The book states that since the test statistic value is morethan critical value we will say that the data fits thedistribution. Explanation / Answer

if the calculated chi-square value > the critical value for Pvalue, then we cannot assumethat the value is by chance, so reject. You are correct. Perhapsyou have misread the critical value off the chart, or used aincorrect degrees of freedom?
