What exactly is a normal distribution? 3) In your own words, explain what a sampling distribution is. Under what conditions is the sampling distribution of sample mean approximately normal? Under what conditions is the sampling distribution of sample proportion approximately normal. 4) State the Central Limit Theorem. 5) Heights of adult females are normally distributed. Samples of heights of adult females, each of size n 3, are randomly collected and the sample means are found. Is it correct to conclude that the sample means cannot be treated as normal distribution because of the sample size is too small? Explain.

Explanation / Answer

Answer 2

No, it is not having the same meaning of normal as in ordinary language. The Normal word in statistic has a special meaning. The normal distribution is a special kind of distribution which is bell shaped and have area under curve equal to 1. It has mean and standard deviation and follows a specific pattern for data distribution either side of the center point, i.e. the mean.

So, Normal word is different in statistics as compared to normal in ordinary language.
