/ math 2100 2018/ 212 Homework8.2: Problem 2 (1 point) A survey of 1875 people who took trips revealed that 130 of them included a visit to a theme park. Based on those survery results, a management consultant claims that less than 8 % of trips include a theme park visit Test this claim using the ?-0.05 significance level The test statistic is The critical value is The conclusion is ? A. There is sufficient evidence to support the claim that less than 8 % of trips include a theme park visit. O B. Explanation / Answer

Solution:

Null hypothesis is

H0: mean>=0.08

Alternate hypothesis is H1: Mean<0.08

Sample proportion= 130/1875 = 0.06933

Test statistic = (0.06933-0.08)/sqrt(0.08*(1-0.08)/1875

= -0.010633/sqrt(0.08/0.92/1875)

= -0.010633/0.2712/43.3012

Test statistic = -1.6977

This is one tailed test so

Critical value at 0.05 from z table is

-1.645

As this is left tailed test if test statistic is less than -1.645

Than we will reject null hypothesis against of alternate hypothesis.

We can see that our test statistic is less than -1.645 so we will reject the null hypothesis and accept the claim that the less than 8% of trips included a theme park visit. So its answer is A.
