Question

Step 2, Determine exposure by estimating a 100 and 10% of the application rate sprayed into a wetland that is 10 cm deep. Calculate the water concentration. (Note ug/cm2 x 1 cm2 ug added; then ug added/10cm3 converts to ug/ml; surface area does not matter as it is sprayed across the complete surface.) Provide estimated environmental concentrations for both values. What would happen it assumptions were different (more or less spray drift; deeper or more shallow water body) Label, Lamcap Ai: Lambda- Gyhalothrin Application Rate blA 1.2083 uqlem I lb/A= 1-12 ha! Explanation / Answer

SInce we know the application rate is given in microgram/cm2

Depth of wetland is 10 meters deep.

First we’ll find the volume of wetland in which the application of chemical has taken place, this can be calculated as:

Volume of wetland = 1 cm2 x 10 cm = 10cm3

Now we know that 1 cm3 = 0.001 liters

Therefore, 10 cm3 = 0.001 x 10 = 0.01 liters

So we have calculated the total amount of Chemical that is used in 10cm deep wetland (equivalent to 0.01 liters of wetland volume) = 11.2083 ug

For 1 liter the concentration is (11.2083 x100) ug = 1120.83 ug

Now exposure can be calculated on the basis of percentage given (by multiplying by percentage).
