Question

Question 27 0.35/0.35 pts You consider visiting Montreal during the break between terms in January. You go to the relevant Web site of the official tourist office to figure out the type of clothes you should take on the trip. The site lists that the average high during January is -7° C, with a standard deviation of 4° C. Unfortunately you are more familiar with Fahrenheit than with Celsius, but find that the two are related by the following linear function: C = (9/5)(F-32). Find the mean and standard deviation for the January temperature in Montreal in Fahrenheit (to one decimal point, equations 2.29 and 2.30 in the text may be helpful). mean = 19.4 standard deviation = 7.2 Answer 1: 19.4 Answer 2: 7.2

Explanation / Answer

here degree Fahrenheit =(9/5) oC +32

hence mean =(9/5)*E(C)+32=-(9/5)*(-7)+32 =19.4

and std deviation =(9/5)*SD(C) =(9/5)*4 =7.2
