7. What two characteristics of a variable also affect whiclh statistical test should be used? (2 pts) 8. Given the following information, would your decision be to reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Setting the level of significance at.05 for decision making, provide an explanation for your conclusion. (6 pts) between the type of music a person listens to and his crime rate (p.05). b. The null hypothesis that there is no relationship between the amount of coffee consumption and GPA (p.62) c. The null hypothesis that there is a negative relationship between the number of hours worked and level of job satisfaction (p.049). 9. What does chance have to do with testing the research hypothesis for significance? (1 pt)Explanation / Answer
7. For testing population mean, we use z-test if the population standard deviation is known and t-test if it is unknown. So it effects which test to choose.
Similarly for testing population standard deviation, we use chi-square test with (n-1) d.f. if mean is known and chi-square test with n d.f. if it is unknown. (Ans).
8. a) Since the p-value is less than 0.05, we reject H0. We conclude that there is a significant relationship between the type of music a person listens and his crime rate. (Ans).
b) Since the p-value = 0.62 > 0.05, we reject H0. We conclude that there is no significant relationship between the amount of coffee consumption and GPA. (Ans).
c) Since the p-value is less than 0.05, we reject H0. We conclude that the negative relationship between number of hours worked and level of job satisfaction.
