Question
below shows the resuits of Jurtu The contingency table respondents about their preferred way to order fast food: Gender Dining Preference Male Female Total 21 12 Dine inside Order inside to go | Order at drive-through Total 19|10| 29 60 78138 100 100 200 Use the contingency table above to answer the following questions pertaining to conditional probability: 2. Given that a respondent is a male, what is the probability that he prefers to order at the drive-through? a. LoO oO/ b. Given that the respondent is a female, what is the probability that she prefers to order at the drive through? - 78 Is dining preference independent of gender? Explain Pr(AIB) p(A)Explanation / Answer
2. a) P(order at drive through | male) = 60/100 = 0.6
b) P(order at drive through | female) = 78/100 = 0.78
c) If A and B are independent events, P(A and B) = P(A) x P(B)
P(order at drive through) = 138/200= 0.69
P(male) = 100/200 = 0.5
P(male) x P(order at drivethrough) = 0.5x0.69 = 0.345
P(male and order at drivethrough) = 0.6 So, it does not satisfies the conditions required to be independent. So, dining preference is independent of gender.
