Question

oncern over the weather associated with El Nino has increased interest in the possib ty that the climate on earth is getling warmer. The most common theory relates an increase in atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide(CO2 greenhouse gas, to increases n temperature. A regression analysis of the mean annual Co conoentration (in parts per million) in the atmosphere at the top of Mauna Loa in Hawali and the mean annual air temperature (in degrees Celsius) ove both land and sea across the globe for 37 ears was performed. Assume all conditions are met for simple linear regression inference. In words, what is the ccrrect alternative hypothesis to test the theory proposed in this problem? Click the icon to views the regression analysis. hoose the correct answer below A. Amwal CO2 ! 1s over Mauna Loa do not help explan annual average global air temperature. B. Annual average global air temperatures do not help explain annual CO2 levels over Mauna Loa C. Annual CO2 leves over Mauna Loa do help explain annual average global air temperature D. Annal average global air temperatures do help explain annual CO2 levels over Mauna Loa.

Explanation / Answer

Question 1

Option C is correct. As, alternative hypothesis always always talk about evidential proof. Null hypothesis means that annual average CO2 level doesn't affect temperature at all until we proof it by providing some evidence that is called alternative hypothesis.

Question 2

Option B is correct. As, alternative hypothesis mean providing evidence against status quo which is that there is no effect of distance on the damage to any home. So, the regression provides evidence and that's alternative hypothesis.

Question 3

Option D seems correct. As we are rejecting null hypothesis and accepting alternative hypothesis that shows there is a relation between CO2 concentration and temperature increase so value of R2 must have a high value so that discard all other four options because they seems very low. The R2 if written in percentage show the percentage of variation in average annual air temperature explained by CO2 concentration.
