How uld you randomize the students many stu that you chose? Be specific. dents do you think would need to be surveyed to have a reasonably representative sample of all TC students? List 3 questions that you would ask on your survey. c.Explanation / Answer
(a)
The sample of the study is spring 2001, 119 four-year colleges students.
(b)
The sample size of each college was 215 randomly selected students from all full-time undergraduate students enrolled during the 2000/01 school year.
Total sample size for the survey = 215 * 119 = 25585 students
(c)
The 2 key questions for this study were (1) “Do you have a ‘working firearm’ (defined as a gun, including pistol, revolver, rifle, or shotgun) with you at college?” and (2) “While you have been at college, has anyone used, dis- played or brought out a working firearm against you in a hostile manner?”
So, the population of interest are students who are victim of firearm threat and who own firearm at college.
(d)
Yes, this study is a valid argument against allowing CCW's on campus because,
1. The sample size of college and students was large covering all parts of USA. (38 states and DC)
2. For each college, the students were randomly selected.
3. The survey was nor forceful and biased. Students’ responses to the survey were voluntary and anonymous, and students were told that they did not have to answer any question that made them feel uncomfortable.
4. It covers both types of students who are victim of firearm threat and who own firearm at college and thus covering both types of arguments in the study.
