The executive board of a relatively small university located in Europe wants to determine the attitude of their students toward various aspects of the university. The university, founded in 1928, is a fully accredited government-financed university with 11,000 students. The university specializes in the social sciences and humanities and has five facilities, six service departments, eight research centers, and two graduate schools. The executive board has asked you to come up with a sampling plan. State the relevant population and the most appropriate sampling design. Be sure to discuss the reasons for your answers.

Null hypothesis could be patient attitude towards the university is not different from the reference mean
The sampling method for this situation would be random cluster sampling in which cluster could be five facilities, six service departments, eight research centres and two graduate schools. From each of clusters, random sampling could be done keeping in the mind that each member of the cluster would have equal probability to be selected, therefore, the sample would the representative of that university. This sampling method would allow to use statistical test appropriately for testing the hypothesis. Most of the statistical tests have been formulated on the basis of random sampling.
The technique that should be used in this hypothesis test would be one sample t-test. The alternate hypothesis assumes that some difference exists between the true mean and comparison value, whereas null hypothesis assumes that no difference exists. The purpose of one sample t-test is to determine if null hypothesis should be rejected. If the null hypothesis is rejected then students attitudes may be worse or excellent or we can say statistically significantly different than the reference mean. If the observed mean is higher than value 6 and statistically significant then students attitudes could be good towards the various aspects of the university as compared to the reference value.
In the other case if the observed mean is below than 6 and statistically significant then we can say that student attitudes are bad as compared with the reference value toward the various aspects of the university.
