Hazard Assessment Kilauea, on the Big Island of Hawaii, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Because Kilaue pts so trequently, it poses serious hazards to residents and the surrounding environment. The scientists at the an Volcano Observatory (HVO) continually monitor Kilauea's eruptive and gas activity in order to make predic The eruptive activity n cientist you will be assessing the natural hazards associated with Kilauea's activity including the dangers tions and assess the dangers to people and properties in the region. from Kilauea originates from the summit caldera and the east or southwest rift zones. to people and properties in the region. Explanation / Answer

Normally the the lava from the kilauea flows towards the south directly into the ocean. But during an areal survey on october,2014 by HVO the found that the flow of the lava has changed its general course and is flowing towards North east, towards Pahoa. Before the lava flows was governed by the topography and the lava used to flow towards the south along the general slope of the area. But now several fissures have opened along northeast flank of Kilauea’s Pu‘u ‘O’o crater, the lava flows from this flows along the East Rift zone. This lava flows are important to be governed by HVO as the lava flows now flowing towards the densely populated areas of Pahoa and is deadly to the citizens of that area.
