KIENGE StrongQuote Intense E Styfes Heading 2 QUESTION7 What order (flow chart from my lecture) is involved in turning parental solid rock into sediments and eventually sedimentary rock? C weathering, deposition, erosion, lithification r weathering, erosion, deposition, lithification weathering, lithification, erosion, depostion lithification, weathering, deposition, erosion QUESTION 8 What does alluvium mean? C sediments deposited by wind sediments deposited in lakes sediments deposited by moving water sediments deposited in the marine environment

Explanation / Answer

Question 7:

The conversation of any parent solid rock (can be an igneous rock, metamorphic rock or can be a sedimentary rock) into its respective sediments and then again into a sedimentary rock ( as it is composed of sediments and hence is known as a sedimentary rock) is as follows:

First of all weathering of the parent rock will take place this can be physical or can be a chemical weathering process, this will make the rock weak after this erosion will take place to remove the material from the weakened rock by various agents like water, wind, glaciers and other after this the eroded material is deposited where the agent will lose its energy and won’t be able to carry the material forward this material pile up over each other and thus gets lithified to give sedimentary rock and hence the option c that is weathering, erosion, deposition and lithification is correct.

Question 8:

Alluvium means when the above mentioned process is done by moving water or in other words in the case where moving water transport the weather material downslope then this material after deposition is known as alluvium. Hence option c that is the sediments deposited by moving water is correct.
