The least important role that soil plays in environment is to act as the foundation material for structures because these structures are not related to the environment as such while the other functions are very important as far as environmental quality is concerned for example:

If soil don’t recycle water then there would be exponential increase in the type of diseases and the number of people infected by the diseases.

Without plants we won’t get air and food and it’s impossible to survive without these two entities.

Soil help to maintain the complexity of food web by providing habitat for different forms of life otherwise the food web will shatter and we would have to face a lot of trouble due to this.

Soil act as natural filter and thus clean and purify water which is again very important for our survival.

It transfer the nutrients from the soil to plants and from the dead organic matter to soil and thus help to maintain the balance of nutrients in earth.
