Question
A. What is a benefit of using information on shifts in historical species distributions with past climate to predict future species distributions? In other words, what information does this approach provide that other methods used to predict future species distributions (such as climate envelope models, process based models, dynamic global vegetation models) do not? B. What is a drawback of using information on shifts in historical species distributions with past climate to predict future species distributions?Explanation / Answer
Benefits of using this method: Since the climate change in the past had a pattern, the species shift in distribution can be mapped with the climate and theoritically the species distribution in the future can be predicted and accordingly important decisions can be made at the present climate change. Since all the species in the earth are important to maintain the food chain and also the life cycle of all the organisms including human beings, this method efficiently provides solutions to forecast the future availability of species. Drawback of using this information: Since the climate change is not predictable nowadays due to the misalignment between the countries to maintain the climate control, the future climate cannot be predicted and the mapping fails practically. Because of the uncertainty in the future climate conditions, the species distribution is difficult to track until the climate conditions art present comes into control.
