Question

Look back to the two regression equations. Compare the values for R, the coefficient of determination. The closer the value of R2 is to 1, the better the fit of the equation to the data. 5. After viewing the two equations graphed on top of the scatter plot, and comparing the values for R2, the coefficient of determination, which appears to best fit the data? Round to two decimal places. Does this height make sense? Explain using complete sentences. ANSWER: Click or tap here to enter text. Part II 7. Why is it not possible for a function defined by a polynomial of degree four with real coefficients to have zeros of 2, 3, 5, and 1i? Explain using complete sentences. ANSWER: Click or tap here to enter text.

Explanation / Answer

7. the function intersects at x=-5,-2,1 and 6. hence the linear factors of the function are:

(x+5),(x+2),(x-1)and (x-6)

8.A polynomial of degree 4 with real coefficients can have following combinations of zeros:

a) 4 real zeros

b) 2 real, 2 imaginary

c) 4 imaginary zeroes

Imaginary zeroes always occur in conjugate pairs if the coefficients of the polynomial are real.

TAssuming that the given polynomial has zeroes at 2,3,5 and (1+i)

Then f(x) = a(x-2)(x-3)(x-5)(x-1-i)

On expanding above polymial, we will end up with imaginary coeffcicients. hence these zeroes are not possible.
