Question

6/12 points| Provious Answers UNAPraCalc1 12.P.012 My Notos The cities of Abnarca and Bonipto have populations that are growing exponentially. In 1980, Abnarca had a population of 22,000 people. In 1990, its population was 27,000. Bonipto had a population of 35,000 in 1980. The population of Bonipto doubles every 55 years. (Round your answers to the nearest whole number.) (a) How long does it take the population of Abnarca to double? 34 yr (b) How long will it take for Abnarca's population to equal that of Bonipto? 57 x yr Additional Materials Reading

Explanation / Answer

abanarca

in 1980 population was 22000 people

in 1990 population was 27000

bonipto population in 1980 = 35000

doubles every 55 years

finding equation for each city

27000 = 22000 e^(r*10)

P = 22000 e^.020 t

a) population will doulbe in

2* 22000 = e^.020t

t = 34 years

b) finding equation for bonipto

2*35000 = 35000 e^(55r)

r = 0.0126

hence, equation is

P = 35000 e^(.0126t )

setting both equations equal to each other

35000 e^(.0126t ) = 22000 e^.020 t

35000 / 22000 = e^ (.020t ) / e^.0126t

t = 60

so two population will be equal in 60 years
