Question

Below is a scatterplot of the length of two body parts (i.e., the left forearm and left foot) for a sample of 12 individuals Forearm Foot 8.75 9.5 10 10 11.510.25 11.25 10.25 10.5 12.5 11.5 10.5 11.5 12.5 10 11.5 11.5 Lengths of Left Forearm and Foot Length of Left Foot (inches) 12 10 9 10 12 Length of Left Forearm (inches) 1. (1ptldentify the letter label for the point in yellow (third point) in the table 2. (1ptldentify the letter label for the point in green (last point) in the table 3. (2pts)Pick the correlation coefficient (or r) that best fits the scatterplot. o A: r-0.30 o B: r=0.75 ° C: r=0.00 D: r=-0.60 4. (2pts)Explain your choice of correlation coefficient.

Explanation / Answer

1. Latter D is the correct answer.

Because the co-ordinate of D are ( 10, 9).

On x - axis represent the values of Forearm and y - axis represents the values of Foot

2. F ( 10.25, 11.50 ) , so latter F is the correct option.

3. From the scatter plot we have seen that one variable increases then the other variable also increase and vice versa. So there is positive correlation between Forearm and Foot.

So the option C and D are not correct.

The correcct option is B, because there is strong correlation.

Note that 0.30 shows weak positive correlation, so that option A also not correct.

4. Since the relationship between these two variables are positive we choose positive correlation, which is not very strong and which is not weak.
