Question
My factory produces marbles in three colors; white, black, and transparent. it costs $0.10 to make each white marble, $0.15 to make each black marble, and $0.07 to make each transparent marble. I can sell white marbles at $0.12 each, black marbles at $0.16 each, and transparent marbles at $0.12 each. Suppose that last year the total cost of producing marbles was $312,000 and proceeds from marble sales were $396,000. Assume that all marbles produced were sold. If 1,100,000 transparent marbles were sold, how many marbles in total were sold?
Explanation / Answer
Let there was x white, x black marbles produced and total number of marbles be z.
so, x+y+ 1100000 = z -----equation 1
Cost of making marbles = x(0.1) + y(0.15) + 0.07(1100000) =312000 -----equation 2
Proceeds from marble sales = x( 0.12) + y(0.16) + 0.12(1100000) = 396000 ----equation 3
Solving equations 1, 2, 3
we get ,
Total number of marbles = z = 8,00,000
