Question

I am trying to make my own Chex Party Mix and sell at a Fund Raiser for Underpaid College Professors. I would like to create 100 pounds of mix that would have an average cost of $2.00 per pound. I will be using the following ingredients: Chex Cereal 60 cents per pound Planters Peanuts $5.00 per pound Roll Gold Pretzels - $3.25 per pound In my mix, for each pound of peanuts, I would use 4 pounds of Pretzels. How many pounds of Chex Cereal will I need to use to have 100 pounds of mix with an average cost of $2.00 per pound? Your Answer: Answer

Explanation / Answer

here let quantity of Chex cereal =x / pound and that of Planters =y /pound

hence x+y+4y =1

x+5y =1 .............(1)

for average cost is $2/pound

therefore 0.6*x+5y+3.25*4y=2

0.6x+18y =2 .........(2)

solving equation (1) and (2)

x=0.5333

therefore quantity of Chex cereal used for 100 pounds =0.5333*100 =53.33 pounds
