My Notes Ask Your Teacher Refer to the graph of the function f in the following figure. y=f(x) 0 89 10 (a) Find 9) (b) Find the values of x corresponding to the point(s) on the graph of flocated at a height of 5 units above the x-axis. (smaller value) (larger value) (c) Find the point on the x-axis at which the graph of fcrosses it. What is fx) at this point?Explanation / Answer
-> The value of a function referes to the value on the Y-axis. So, to find the value of f(9), check the horizontal line which intersects the y-axis at x=9. So, f(9)=1.
->Similarly, the horizontal line from y=5 which intersects the graph at two points, there are two values of x at which the value of f is same. So, the vertical lines intersecting the x axis are at x=4 and x=6.
-> f crosses the x-axis at one point as clear from the graph which is at x=2.
