Question

Can anyone explain why I got a wrong? Is it possible for there to be a jump and a removable discontuinity at the same time?

Question 4 Your answer is INCORRECT Suppose that for a function f, f(5) is not defined. Also suppose that lim f(z) 3 and lim f 3. Which, if any, of the following statements is false a) f has jump discontinuity at x 5 b) If we re-define f so that f5) 3 then the new function will be continuous at x 5 lim f(r) a d) f has removable discontinuity at x 5 e) All of the above statements are true. Question 5 Your answer is CORRECT. An object moves along the ac axis and its position is given by the function s(t) t3 5t2 4t 5 Find the acceleration at time t b) d) 5

Explanation / Answer

Actually it is asking for the statement which is "false". But you have chosen a statement which is true.

The statement (a) is false.

A function is said to have jump discontinuity at x=a, if the left and right limits are NOT same.

But here left and right side limits are same.

So it does not have a jump discontinuity and hence (a) is false.

So (a) is the answer.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions. :)
