The UTM coordinates in this tutorial are given in an abbreviated format. Abbreviated UTMs are often used for local large scale mapping, hiking, search and rescue operations, etc, when it is already clear to everyone which map is being used. In those cases, the unecessary digits are removed to form the desired abbreviated version. The first three digits are the easting, and the second three digits are the northing. In this assignment, the significance of the three digits is the 10,000m, 1,000m and 100 metres UTM, respectively. For example, the Senior Citizens Home in the town of Hantsport (on the Avon River) in full UTM coordinates is: 0407000E, 4991000 The abbreviated version is 070910 Questions 1-7 are based on the topographic of the Wolfville, Nova Scotia area.
