Question
Problem 4. Sofia Kovalevskaya1 has a beautiful Persian cat named Calc. Help her decide which of the following integrals make real-world sense (there may be more than one), and state the real-world meaning(s) (do not evaluate the integrals). You do not have to do anything with the nonsensical one(s). (a) 17Vp +1dp, where Calc sleeps 17VpI hours per day if Sofia feeds Calc p kilograms of cat food per day. 0.7 25 (b) dy, where Cale's left front leg grows longer at a rate of 25 cetimters per year when Cale is v years old. 1.05 1.75 du, where it takes 1.75 days per kilogram for Cale to gain weight when Cale's weight is u kilograms. 20 .Explanation / Answer
a) This integral will not make any sense because area under the curve of sleep in hours per day for certain amount of feed per day will give a nonsensical quantity i.e. total number of hours of sleep times kilogram of food per day per day.
b) This integral will give the total amount of left front leg grown by calc from the first year to fourth year. So it makes some sense.
c) This integral will also make sense and it will give total number of days required by calc to gain weight of 20 Kg from 20 Kg to 40 Kg.
