Question

Only need to answer two word questions

The figure below shows a comet traveling in an elliptical orbit around the Sun. The comet is shown as it moves through four different segments of its orbit (labeled A, B, C, and D). During each segment of the orbit the comet sweeps out the wedge shaped area shaded in gray. Assume each of the shaded wedge shaped areas has the same size. SUN Sort in order the amount of time it should take the comet to travel each of the 4 segments. If the time is the same for all choose that answer in each case. All the times are the same. - B: All the times are the same. öö C: All the times are the same. ; All the times are the same. - Your answer is correct. Explain why you answer to the previous question was correct. How did you know how to compare the times for the four segments?

Explanation / Answer

KEPLER’S SECOND LAW DESCRIBES THE WAY AN OBJECT’S SPEED VARIES ALONG ITS ORBIT

A planet’s orbital speed changes, depending on how far it is from the Sun. The closer a planet is to the Sun, the stronger the Sun’s gravitational pull on it, and the faster the planet moves. The farther it is from the Sun, the weaker the Sun’s gravitational pull, and the slower it moves in its orbit.
