Question

1. Evolution (development) of us people has been going on for millions of years. Compare our way of living (lifestyles) during the Stone Age (which lasted for hundreds of thousands of years) and today (in the 21st century). Try to find the pros and cons of our way of life now and then. Are we for example Created to sit in front of a digital screen all day?

2. The evolution of us humans - and all other species - will continue as long as we are on earth. Resonate about how the people of the future will develop. What physical and mental characteristics of humans are getting worse and which ones gets improved? Explain.

Explanation / Answer

1) The jump from stone-age man (primitive man) to modern man (or civilized man) is defined by some as taking place with the invention of agriculture around 10,000 to 8000 B.C., and by others with the development of writing around 3200 B.C while a few say it took place with the invention of the metals tools (beginning with the copper ones mostly) around 4500 B.C. The cultivation of previously wild plants and the domestication of previously wild animals for work and food took place. Development of pottery vessels and cloth took place not long afterwards. Among the results of these advancements were huge increases in the human population and control by mankind over the Earth. Early man and modern man can be easily distinguished from each other by the differences in their lifestyle rather than their anatomy and morphology.

Early Man : They were culturally different among themselves and they lived with the nature.

Pros: Unlike us, they utilized the natural resources in a sustainable manner.Indigenous people lived in tribes while some were nomadic. These un-urbanized self sustaining societies had very simple lifestyles with primary hunting methods and simply sheltered houses. There was hardly any pollution in stone age. They covered their body either by tree leaves or animal skin and hunted animals for food and lived in caves. They even discovered tools like sharp stones, spears, and sharpened bones. They were the first to make tools out of stone and invented fire.

Cons: The development of technology was very low and the communication between distant places was primary. So, loud sounds were frequently used as signals to others. Travelling and transportation took more time and effort to complete. There was no electricity.

Modern Man : Modern human belongs to the human species, Homo sapiens that originated 200,000 to 100,000 years ago in Africa and Southern Asia. The behavioral modernity discriminates us from early man.

Pros: The behavioral modernity of the modern man can be characterized by abstract thinking, planning depth, cultural diversity as well as symbolic expressions such as art and music. Unlike being hunters or nomads like early man, a modern man is a food producer and spends a settled life in a particular residence. He is aware of domestication. Technology has widened the sensation of the modern man and our lifestyle has become more complex. Technology has developed drastically leading to advanced and hi tech communication.

Cons: We are more oriented towards artifcial products rather than the natural ones. Lower levels of human activity (mostly sedentary). We are consuming food with high levels of pesticides and adulteration and the pollution levels has increased. Inncreased population(population explosion) in recent times has caused widespread destruction of our natural resources to meet the demands of the growing population. Advanced modes of transportation like aeroplanes are used nowadays. We are mostly dependent on electrical gadgets nowadays as they have made our life much easier. Mobile phones, television and computers seem to be the only source of entertainment in today's life. Usually, the glow of a phone’s screen is the first thing we see when we wake and the last thing we see before going sleep but our bodies and eyes just weren’t designed for modern digital lifestyles and workplaces. Staring closely at a screen all day forces our ciliary muscles(which controls the shape of our lens and therefore how well we focus) to remain contracted, without rest. This is demanding and tiring for the poor little muscle. If we do so, we may experience symptoms of digital eye strain due to prolonged exposure to digital screen and by doing so, we’re harming our vision. So, we must take regular breaks in between to keep our eyes intact.

2) Evolution is a never ending process. Studies suggest humans will be very different creatures 1,000 years from now. Climate change, artificial intelligence and genetic mutations are all set to transform our bodies in drastic ways. We could for example, develop red eyes as our DNA mutates or have darker skin as an evolutionary response to global warming. Humans might grow into more intelligent and attractive people and as global warming takes hold, humans are also more likely be skinnier and taller (it predicts) as this body shape is better able to dissipate heat. Machines might completely eat up humans’ jobs talents. People will create the jobs of the future, not simply train for them, and technology is already central. The physical and mental characteristics of humans are getting worse due to which crime rates are increasing, more number of people are suffering from stress conditions and health conditions are deteriorating at a severe rate.
