Question

Jupiter and Saturn, despite being considerably farther from us tha, very bright in our sky.Which of the following choices are possible 'ex inner terrestrial planets, are pl ations for this? Choose one or more: A. They are more reflective (higher albedo) than most of the terrestrial planets. B. They are so hot that they emit blackbody radiation that peaks in the visible. C. They are larger than the terrestrial planets. D. Dust obscures our view of the inner planets more than the outer ones E. Since they are closer to stars, more starlight is reflected off of them than the inner planets. 01/10 > SOLUTION 0 #a

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER is A and E

EXPLANATION :

A) Jupiter and Saturn are more reflective (higher albedo) than most of the terrestrial planets. Each planet reflects some amount of sunlight falling on it. The index of reflection, or the albedo of the planet defines about the composition of its surface. Planets with more albedo have high reflective atmospheres or water surfaces and planets with less albedo have hard rock surfaces which are rough and scatter light in different directions than reflecting it.

E) Jupiter and Saturn are so hot that they emit blackbody radiation that peaks in the visible. They both emit about twice as much energy as the receive from the Sun and hotter the blackbody, the more light it gives off at all wavelengths.....
