Question
Well D Well A cWell B Well C 4. Layer A (aquifer) Layer B(4qujiardd Layer C (agoifer) Well Elevation, TOC (m)Depth to Water (m) Hydraulic Head (m) 109 36 103 34 The table above gives you the elevation of the top of the well casing (TOC), the depth to water from the TOC for four wells. Using information find hydraulic head for each of the wells and answer the following questions a. Which direction is now going between well A and D? Put an arrow in the appropriate location and write out your answer here. b. Which direction is flow going between well A and B? Put an arrow in the appropriate location and write out your answer here. c. Which direction is flow going between well C and D? Put an arrow in the appropriate location and write out your answer here. d. Which direction is water flowing between Layer A and Layer C near wells A and B? Put an arrow in the appropriate location and write out your answer here.Explanation / Answer
hydraulic head of a well A = elevation (m) - depth to water (m) = 109-36 = 73m
hydraulic head of a well B = elevation(m)-depth to water(m) = 111-11 = 100m
hydraulic head of a well C = 103-1 = 102m
hydraulic head of a well D = 99-34 = 65m
The flow will be from high hydraulic head to the low hydraulic head
a) the flow direction will be from A to D as the D is having the hydraulic head (65m) and the A has (73m)
b)the flow direction well be from B to A as the B is having the hydraulic head (100m) and the A is having (73m)
c)flow direction between C and D = C is having 102m and D is having 65m
So the flow is from C to D
d)the flow direction between A and B is from B to A as A is having 73m and B is having 100m as the both layers same aquifers.
