3. a. Along what type of plate boundaries do stratovolcanoes occur? b. Why do stratovolcanoes occur along this type of plate boundary? 4. a. Along what type of boundaries will you find the tallest peaks in the ocean? b. Near what type of boundaries will you find the greatest relief? c. What two features, one in continental and one in oceanic crust, create this high relief? 5. Find the Hawailian Islands. This is a rather unique tectonic environment that is neither convergent, divergent, nor transform. What tectonic setting best describes the Hawalian Islands?Explanation / Answer
3. A. Stratovolcanoes are found along the subduction zones as they are formed with high pressure.
B. During the subduction the oceanic plate moves and this creates a huge temperature and this melts the rocks and the rocks come out in the form of lava and the water cools the lava and slowly the volcano is built.
4. A.We can see the tallest peaks in convergent plate boundaries. This is because when two plates get converged compressing strength acts on them and this will make the plates move more close and thus results in the uplifting of the plate. This is how the highest peaks are formed.
B. Divergent plate boundaries are where we can see the greatest relief. Because when the plates move apart from each other then they create various reliefs.
C. In continental feature the mountain building takes place where as in the oceanic plates the relief structures are made. When the plates are separated then they form the relief. Mid oceanic ridges are reliefs in ocean.
5. Hawaiian islands are a bit different and they have convergence and also subduction and this is creating hot spots.
