Question
Problem 1 After viewing this video, explain the concept of evolution of populations (or breeding population) from a genetic (gene pool) perspective. Use these following key points: a. What role does variation play in this process of change? b. What is the key source of variation? At what level does the variation originate- genetic or phenotype? c. At what level is the variation exhibited or ‘expressed?" genetic or phenotypic? What works on the phenotypes available to make them 'successful' or not? d. In either or both of the demonstrations, what changed individuals or populations? How did the two levels (population and gene pool) interact upon each other to create change over time? What is another word for this kind of change?Explanation / Answer
A genetic population is described as the sum of gene (or allelic) frequencies for all the genes represented by that population. For evolution of a species to occur the gene frequencies of that population must undergo change.species evolves when gene frequencies changes and the species moves it to a higher level of adaptation for a specific ecological niche.
Variation occurs when one gene in the organism is mutated. It makes the organism to survive longer than the others in the population without the mutation and gives the mutated one a greater chance to pass on its genes.
Mutation is the key source of variation and it originates by passing of genes that is genetic.
The levels in which variation is expressed is phenotype.Standing genetic variation that donot contribute to phenotypic variation under standard conditions but having the potential to modify the phenotype following a change in environmental setting or genetic context is cryptic variation.
first individuals change and if the change is successfull than their offsprings carry that change and population is also changed.the two levels interact upon each other by mutations.Natural selection is important for evalutionary change.
