Hi, I just started working with mice and my first project is togenotype them. Since I am very new to this fild, I don'treally know what the difference is between knockout, transgenic, and null mouse and how do you show that with the + & - sign, and if they can be both homozygous and heterozygous. Thanks! Hi, I just started working with mice and my first project is togenotype them. Explanation / Answer

As for your homo/hetero question: An organism is either HomozygousOR Heterzygous - they cannot be both.

Let's say you have two alleles of the same gene: Allele A andAllele a.

If your mouse had two copies of AA, he would be homozygous for A.If he had two copies of aa, he would be homozygous for a. BUT if hehad Aa (or aA), he would be heterozygous.

Good luck!
