Explanation / Answer
1) Energy is transferred to reduce this imbalance by- D) wind and ocean currents.
Explanation- Differential heating of landmass across latitudes results in varying surface temperatures. At areas of high temperature the air in contact heats up and rises, creating a region of low pressure. At areas of low temperatures the cold air mass sinks and forms a region of high pressure. These pressure gradient results in the formation of convective circulations, thus transferring heat across latitudes.
In case of world oceans a similar situation prevails. The gradient in this case is thermo haline.
2) The influence of cloud cover acts to - Both decrease daytime temperature and increase night time temperature.
Explanation - During the day, the clouds help in global dimming. This prevents the solar radiations from reaching the surface, enhancing a cooling effect. During the night, the clouds block outgoing longwave radiations, thereby keeping the environment warm.
