Geography is one of the most fundamental sciences. It helps us understand and recognize the spatial variations and differences in environmental, cultural, economic, political, and demographic conditions. Geography helps us understand, appreciate, and work to protect diversity, whether it is environmental (biodiversity) or cultural diversity.

On the other hand, globalization driven by economic forces such as free trade, less or no government intervention, private and individual ownership of resources, is seen by some people to help poor developing areas to improve their economies and the living conditions of their citizens. The opponents of globalization see more negative impacts than positive. Globalization increases the gab between the rich and poor. It leads to economic dependency. Cultural dominance: one popular culture erodes other local cultures and becomes dominant. Depletion of resources, and degradation of the environment. Increasing international migration leading to more cultural contacts and conflicts.

The political consequences of economic and cultural globalization include foreign intervention in domestic affairs of developing countries, local conflicts get their way to the international media and become global issues. terrorism spreads easy and fast and takes different forms and shapes.

Having all these in mind, an urgent issue we need to discuss is: How can we recognize the rights of individuals, the rights of local or regional cultural or ethnic groups, the rights of national governments, and the responsibilities of the international community such as the united nations and other national and international organizations.

Identify some of the positive or negative aspects about globalization, and express your own opinion. How do you think geography can help you understand these issues?

Generally when we talk about globalization we are dealing with the development and also modernization of a community and this is important as it helps the community in having some recognition and this question i.e whether globalization is good or bad is being debated since many years and this goes on too.

Here let us have some negative and positive aspects of globalization

Positive :-

1.developing countries can benefit more from this as the globalization is more in developed countries and there by better standard of living can be attained.

2.generally in areas where basic human rights are violated this globalization in the form of improved media can help to a great extent

3.because of globalization there will be competition among the nations and this is a good sign for any citizen of the country since he can reap maximum benefits out of his government

4.this also helps in forming bonds across the countries due to exposure of various forms of arts and music and culture etc.

5.finally this globalization helps in getting various governments closer and they work getting the common goals

negative :-

1.the main problem is the difference between the poor and rich and this globalization widens the gap even further.

2.generally there will be loss of jobs as this takes jobs from one country and gives it to another country

3.there might be formation closer bonds between people which is a good sign but there will be loss of tradition and many other values

5. since many eco systems are disturbed in this process there will be chance of wide spread of diseases and loss of many valuable species etc.

so it is very important to have a good balance between these positive and negative aspects of globalization
