Question
When we describe the expanding universe, we often rely on the expanding balloon analogy. In this model, galaxies are drawn in 2-D on a balloon, which is then inflated.
1. Describe in your own words the properties of the expanding balloon model and how they help describe the properties of our own universe.
2. What parts of the expanding balloon model are not very goodanalogies to the workings of our universe?
3. Opinion: Compare and contrast the different analogies presented to describe the expanding universe. Which one do you think did the best job? Can you think of any analogies that might be even better?
Explanation / Answer
1. there is lot of similiarities in expanding universe and expanding balloon. as we know that when we fill air in the balloon , balloon size drastically expand in every second becaouse of its elasticity. similiarly, our universe is also expandinf after the big bang. energy which was produce at the time of big bang , expands universe continuously. like air expands balloon.
2. we know that when ballon expands, it not expands similiar in all direction but in the universe big bang energy expanding it equally in all directions.
3. red shift phenomena is the best which explains expansions of universe. according to it when something moves away then light moves on the red color in spectrum and when moves comes to us then light comes on blue color in spectrum. this is called red shift and blue shift phenomena. with the help of red shift phenomena scientist conslude that universe expanding equally and continuously.
