Question
Length does not matter, thank you!
TOPIC: Discuss major lifestyle changes that some (5-10% most affluent) humans need to adopt in err to provide sustainable solutions to minimize Earth's current environmental degradations threatening life (on planet Earth). In other words, discuss life style changes for the 5-10% most affluent human population that will drastically reduce the excessive and irresponsible consumption of resources and consequent production of waste (by 5-10% most affluent humans). TOPIC ELABORATED/SIMPLIFIED: You have to provide sustainable solutions that have global application and implication. A solution that can work for a while locally will not be a global sustainable solution. Also since the most affluent (top 5-10%) population is using greaterthanorequalto 5 times their share of earth's resources and generating even greater proportion of waste, the lifestyle change you propose should reduce resource consumption and subsequent waste generation also by greaterthanorequalto 5 times. Analyze the solutions you propose realistically and scientifically. For instance, would changing light bulbs, driving hybrid or electric cars, recycling drink cans etc. drastically reduce (greaterthanorequalto 5 to 6 times) the consumption of global resources and production of waste (greaterthanorequalto 5 to 10 times)? Or would it be adopting public transport using renewable energy sources versus personal cars burning gasoline? Visualize a lifestyle that can provide all the essential necessities (food, clothing, shelter, transport education, healthcare, leisure, entertainment, etc.) to all humans without unsustainably (excessively) depleting Earth's resources and producing excessive waste. Consider the lifestyle of the richest and the poorest and search for a happy medium. In your search, span the entire globe. Try to find groups of people (societies, cultures, nations) who enjoy the quality of life better than the more affluent people, yet who do so with minimum damage to global environment. That lifestyle should be the focus of your attention, and should lead you to sustainable solutions to global environmental problems.Explanation / Answer
As mentioned in the question, it is a fact that the lifestyle of the luxurious class of people plays a dominant role in the environmental degradation. This is because they have a very consumer oriented lifestyle where their clothing, shelter, education, transport, health care, etc. are oriented towards only luxury, without a second thought about the impact on environment.
For example, the luxury class or the affluent class of people own and drive many cars, or each member has one or at times more than one car. This increases the anount of fuel burnt and emissions of greenhouse gases which also causes pollution. So as a measure to reduce this negative effect, they shall rather own the cars on need base.
Another part of the lifestyle of affluent class is the overuse of air conditioners, causing harm to the environment. ACs add to the heat in surroundings and expel the greemhouse gases which in turn lead to global warming and ecological imbalance. So as a measure to reduce this negative effect to environment, they should use ACs need based and not for luxury. Also natural air has its own health benefits for human beings.
When it comes to clothing, there are some garments which make use of animal skin like leather. To make these kind of garments, a huge number of animals are slaughtered every year. So as a measure, the skin based garments should be replaced by the alternate options in the same kind of clothing, which are readily available in market.
Now when it comes to entertainment, the affluent class opts for grand and luxurios stay in the natural tourist spots. At times, this leads to the commercialization of the natural places and deforestation. So as measure, there should be a restriction of the number of luxury hotels in the natural spots.
