Question
v(t) = t2? 4t ? 12, 1 ? t ? 7(a) Find the displacement
(b) Find the distance traveled by the particle during the given time interval.
I have tried this problem several times dont know where I'm going wrong. For part A I keep getting -244/3 which is incorrect.

Explanation / Answer
v = (t^2 - 4t - 12)
= (t - 6)(t + 2)
a) Displacement = [int 1 to 7] v(t) dt
= [int 1 to 7] (t^2 - 4t - 12) dt
= -54
b) Distance Travelled = [int 1 to 6] -v(t) + [int 6 to 7] v(t) dt
= [int 1 to 6] -(t^2 - 4t - 12) dt + [int 6 to 7] (t^2 - 4t - 12) dt
= 175/3 + 13/3
= 188 / 3
