Explanation / Answer

1. The research question is whether the advancements in technologies help diabetes patient to increase awareness about the disease, their ability to control their sugar and improve their self efficiacy and self management against the diabetes. The technologies like web based interactive programmes which gives education about diabetes and ways for self management and text messages on phones related to daily medication, reminders for footcare in a week and appointment reminders for visits related to diabetes check up.

2. For the research, a randomized control trial of about 151 participants were done. These participants use the hand held device i.e personal digital assitant. Another method was that the participants use the websites for the educational sessions and the weekly activities of learning. The participants were of type 2 diabetes.

3. There were total 151 participants in this study. All the participants were of type 2 diabetes.

4. No the sample were not adequate for the research design selected because most of the participants had not used the smartphones previously. So they found the use of the smartphones frustrating. Though they believe that that this programme increase their awareness about the disease and helps them to focus on their self managment.

7. Since the most of the participants have not used the smartphones smartly they found these smartphones they get difficulty in operating them and found them irritating. Instead the study should use that technology in which the participants are already familiar.

8. The authors conclusion is that the technologies has greatly improved the self efficiacy and self managment among the diabetes patients in comparison with the usual traditional methods of control care. PDA self monitoring help to control glucose level in patients by calculating the glucose and diet taken. These conclusions are not based on the data taken since most of the patients feel that they are uncomfortable with the use of this smartphones but they were comfortable with the use of emails. But these patients believe that this well help in improving their self efficiacy and the self management for the disease provided the technology used will be that in which they are familiar
