** Please answer both question. Thanks!**

Consider only the information given below in your answers to the following questions:

i) how do you travel from east to west Nepal, you discover that in a group of green parrots there is a geographic variation in the shade of green feathers on the parrots backs such that eastern parrot populations have pale green backs and back color becomes gradually darker from population to population, as you move west.

ii. As you travel through Brazil, you discover that frogs from the north and frogs from the cells reproduce with each other, but that tadpoles that result from the reproduction of northern and southern frogs do not survive to metamorphose into frogs, so they die before reproduction.

iii. Traveling through Scandinavia, you discover two very distinct forms of maple tree, each of which has its own unique characteristics. The two forms sometimes reproduce with each other and produce offspring that are healthy and fertile. Despite this, the different forms of maple retain their own unique characteristics.

iv. In England, you find within many populations of a snail species that some have orange stripes and others have brown stripes; these individuals reproduce with each other freely and have healthy, fertile offspring so that most snail families include both brown striped and orange striped individuals.

***Which of the groups above would be considered one species by both the biological in the phylogenic species concepts?

***In which of these groups would the biological species concept and the phylogenic species concept differ with regard to whether the groups described belong to the same species or two different species?

Explanation / Answer

The phylogentic species concept defines a species as a group having shared a unique evolutionary history. And the biological species concept is that breeding between members of different species has no problem.

i) The group with biological and phylogenetic species concept is snail species where the offsprings shared unique characters from their parents ie orange and brown stripes present in the offsprings and this is the phylogenetic species concept. The breeding is between two different species one with orange stripes and other with brown stripes this is the biological species concept.

ii) The frogs from north to south reproduced but their offsprings did not survive. So, this group differs with the biological and phylogenetic species concept. Because the tadpoles died and we can state that they did not shared any characteristics from the parents and breeding between these species had a problem.
