Explanation / Answer

The Five Ws and H are a tool used by all good journalists to proof read their articles and to make sure that after reading it the readers understand the What? The Why? the When, the Who? the How? the Where? the Who? of the matters and events discussed in the article.

The Five Ws and H are often used in the problem exploration phase of Creative Problem Solving (CPS), to give a good understanding of the challenge before the search begins for solutions in the Idea Generating Phase. Here are some variants on the questions to be asked:

What is the problem? What criteria will we use to decide that it has been solved or is no longer a problem?
Why is this a problem?
When (or by when) do we need to have solved it?
Who is responsible for this, who can be involved in this, who are the other people who may have the solution or an idea that can help us to find a response?
How will we evaluate which is the best solution if we come up with a number of alternatives? How will we implement whatever is needed?
Where will these solutions or creative responses be applicable? Where do we need to make them known? Where can extra resources, information, material be found

An example event could be a research investigation journalism investigating an event particularly a crime.
