Question
2. A biologist has gathered the following information about two populations of a deer species separated by a river. One population lives on the west side of the river, while the other population lives on the east side of the river. Deer have not been able to cross the river for several years. West bank East bank population population Estimated populationze 1870 0.31 0.13 0.20 0.21 0.15 Frequncy of Y-1 allele Frequncy of Y-2 allele Frequncy of Y-3 allele Frequncy of Y-4 allele Frequncy of Y-5 allele 154 0.74 0.26 0 A lethal bacterial disease has had a devastating effect on the east bank population. The west bank population has not suffered the same decline because alleles Y-3, Y-4, and Y-5 provide resistance to the lethal effects of the pathogen. Describe changes to the allelic frequencies of the east bank population that you would expect to see in the future if migration between the west and east bank populations suddenly becomes possible. Explain your reasoning. (1 points)Explanation / Answer
2) When migration is allowed deer of east bank will be able to mate with deer of west bank. This mating will help in incorporating Y-3, Y-4 & Y-5 allele in east bank population from west bank population & so after few generation rate of lethality of that bacterial disease in east bank population will be greatly reduced. Also overall frequency of Y-1 & Y-2 allele will be decrease in the population as the result of incorporation of Y-3, Y-4 & Y-5 allele.
