Ans a) Mr. Edwards has paraplegia and hence requires certain special nursing treatment and care. In case of paraplegia, the intensity of the symptoms depends greatly on the location and extent of the damage. Since he has left behind the wheelchair at home, the first and most important nursing requirement is providing a wheelchair which is comfortable for the patient. It is better to get a wheelchair that is either manual or electric. It is important to prevent bed sores and pressure sores that might be caused due to inability to move and pressure application on certain area of the body. Lack of activity and movement for long time can cause bedsores and it can be painful. The urinary tract catheter must be good and clean that should prevent any type of infection.

Ans b) The best way of health promotion is to encourage the patient to move and try and pursue a hobby. This ensures there is constant motion. During this bed sores, incontinence and infections are something that the patient is prone to. The prevention education that Mr.Edwards need is try the movement through attempt to mobilization. The recovery might take place from weeks to months. For Pyelonephritis, the prevention education must be imparted by explaining the antibiotics dosage and its importance. There is requirement of surgery and the patient should be told what to do after surgery to take care of it.
