1. For the following questions give the probability asked for. Explain how you came to your answer. (12 pts) a. A male with an X-Linked dominant disorder and a women without the disorder have a daughter. What is the probability she will be affected with the disorder? Why! 1ANS' b. Colorblindness is an X-Linked recessive trait. An unaffected man and a colorblind woman have a daughter. What is the likelihood that the daughter will express the recessive trait? Why? If they had a son what is the likelihood he would express the trait? Why? What is the genotype of the women's father (the son's grandfather)? How do you know this? c. A woman is heterozygous for an X-linked dominant condition. What is the chance that she will pass it on to her daughters? Why? (father is unaffected) % chance What is the chance that she will pass it on to her sons? Why?Explanation / Answer
X linked dominant affected male - XwY
Unaffected, normal woman - XX
So , if they had a daughter One X must come from father that X is affected . So if they had a daughter , she will be 100% affected .
b. Colour blind unaffected man, normal - XY
Colour blind woman - XcXc
So if they had a daughter her genotype will be XcX . So the daughter will not be affected but she will be a carrier. So chances of being affected is 0% and chances of being a carrier is 100%.
If they had a son his genotype will be X cY as there is not unaffected X chromosome to counter diseased chromosome the son will be 100% colour blind .
The woman ' s father genotype is XcY as her daughter is diseased she must received an affected X chromosome from her father .
C. Heterozygous X linked dominant condition - XaX .
So she has a 50% chance to pass it on to her daughter and son. Because she either gives affected Xa or gives complete normal X.
