If the genes are assorted independently, the ratio should be in 1:1:1:1:1:1:1:1 ratio. As the observed value i.e. 323:129:17:35:49:16:135:332 is not fit to 1:1:1:1:1:1:1:1 ratio, which indicates that the genes are linked (genes are arranged on the same chrpmosome) which means those genes are not assorted independently.
