Question
Go to the Wall Street Journal (www.wsj.com), and click on (1) Market, then (2) Market data and © Look for “Mutual funds: Closing table”. Do not click on “mutual find” at the top right; instead go to the bottom of the page and find “mutual fund: closing table” link and click on it. An alphabetical list of mutual fund companies will appear. You will find Fidelity funds under “F”, Vanguard funds under “V”, etc.
From the list, choose any fund based on the 5-year return and explain your choice. Click on the name of the fund to get more information; also read the fund prospectus (available online), and answer the following questions.
Report the following information (do not copy and paste- write in your own words)
Name of the fund
Type of fund
Fund’s objective
Fund performance over the past five years and ten years. If 5-year or 10-year data are not available, choose any other time period which is available.
Fund’s expenses (including sales load, if any)
Minimum initial investment necessary to invest in the fund
Name three (3) most important sectors (or industries) and five (5) most important companies where the fund invested its money. Report the percentage of total investment for each sector and each company.
Report the performance of an index fund (as a benchmark) which is appropriate to compare the performance of your fund. (Hint: the fund prospectus will have this information in the performance section). How does your fund compare with the index fund in performance for 5-year and 10-year period you reported in #1(d) above?
NOTES:
Use MS Word to type the HW.
Must copy and attach the relevant pages used from the Prospectus (not the whole document) with the HW. Do not copy or print the entire prospectus! It is a large document. I cannot verify your answers without the relevant pages.
