Viruses are neither living nor non living. They are considered to be at border between living and non living.
Some characteristics of living cells are seen in viruses , others are not.
Living traits in viruses: structurally made up of proteins/glycoproteins, contain nucleic acid as genetic material (DNA / RNA ) , viruses show signs of adaptation/ evolution .
But certain traits of living cells are not seen in viruses , such as absence of metabolism , absence of energy making machinery, absence of protein making machinery, viruses cannot replicate or divide by its own.
